The ERTL models were made from 1985-2004. They are still widely sought after and collected. This is the list of models that were made.

Models by year

1984

These models had a white running board and were only available in 1984. Only 3 different models were produced that year. This was the first year when ERTL started making Thomas the Tank Engine models, the models' used sticker faces.

1985

These models' used sticker faces, so you could give your ERTL model a happy or sad face using a sticker sheet. Thomas was the first model to be released. Later that year, more models were released.

1988

1989

The Thomas the Tank Engine ERTL line was released in the US. There were no new models this year.

1990

This was the first year that ERTL used sculpted/plastic faces.

The packaging was changed to character card profile in the UK.

The packaging changed again. With the Release of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, New models with exculsive Magic Railroad packaging, And an Exclusive Mr. Conducter

2001

2002

The packaging has changed again and again, and the coupling has changed to the U-Hook coupling. The ERTL range was discontinuted outside the UK and was replaced by the new Thomas and Friends Take Along range whilst the ERTL range continued in the UK.

2004

This was the year that the Thomas & Friends ERTL range ended. The Thomas & Friends Take Along range was introduced to the UK at the beginning of 2005. A. J. Chetwynd was the designer of the final releases of the models.
